1888 In 1888 the stone bridge over the creek on Main Street collapsed. It was replaced by the present stone bridge.

1889 The terminal railroad bridge in North Wheeling was started in 1889. In August, 1991, the first Wheeling and Lake Erie train crossed the bridge and entered the city.

1889 River front tragedy. A yacht capsized and three persons drowned. This interesting picture shows the water front to 3rd Street, and the industry in this section.

1890 A busy day at the Wheeling Wharf. Scenes like this were daily occurrencenes in the days when the river was the fastest means of transportation between distant cities.

1891 The packet "Ben Hur" tied up on Water Street during the flood of 1891. The "Ben Hur" sank in 1916 on the Mississippi River.
