Stove Foundries
Wheeling has two stove foundries. For considerable over a generation the stove foundry business has been an important one here, and Wheeling stoves are known and bought all over the country. The quality, excellence of design and beauty of finish are hard to excel. the Sweeneys, the Culbertsons, and other pioneer founders, and in later years the Bells and Fishers, have won for Wheeling an enviable name in this line.
The Star Foundry, now owned and operated by B. Fisher & Sons, occupies half of the entire square bounded by Market, Chapline, Sixteenth and Seventeenth streets. It is commodious and completes in its equipments in all departments, and produces some of the most popular stoves now on the market. The Star Foundry made the first "Burnside" or "Frostkiller" stoves ever cast, and that stove, like the later product of the same establishment, advanced rapidly to the front rank and still holds a place as a heating stove. the Messrs. Fisher make a speciality of cooking stoves.
Joseph Bell & Co., own and operate the Arlington Stove Works, an extensive establishment at the corner of Main and Fourth streets. Some of their cooking and heating stoves have never been surpassed for beauty and all good qualities. Their trade extends all over the country, and some recent additions to their lines of stoves promise to give them a still more extended trade and their product a still higher standard in the markets and the homes of the United States.
