Riverboat Chesapeake

All Aboard for Charleston, May 2, 1886

Sidewheeler Chesapeake at Wheeling

This image seems to commemorate the moving of the State government from Wheeling to Charleston in that year.

The Chesapeake was built in 1871 at Ironton, Ohio. In the 1880s she was purchased by Steve Ball of Wheeling, and operated in the Wheeling-Marietta trade, with Capt. Steve Thompson, master. She sank at Pittsburgh in 1887.
